Bio

Professor Hsiao-Ching She is a Chair Professor  & Director in the Institute of Education at National Chiao-Tung University. Her research mainly focuses on science education, digital learning, & neurosciences. The major & on-going researches include scientific conceptual change, conceptual change & scientific reasoning, argumentation & conceptual change, scientific mental model construction, cognitive multimedia science learning & digital learning. One of her cutting edge research trends is to integrate science education with neuroscience which has used the EEG & eye tracker to study learners’ brain dynamic, eye movement behaviors & their underlying cognitive process during science learning, scientific & math problem solving, scientific concepts working memory task & decision making etc.

Prof. She has served as an academic field coordinator for the NSC’s Science Education Department, Division of Science Education II: Science Teaching & as a committee member of Ministry of Education including Nine Year Science & Technology Curriculum Committee, & High School Biology Curriculum Standards committee. Currently, she is in charge of the Study of OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2015 National-wide Testing, Analyzing & Publicity. As a co-National Project Manager, she works with OECD PISA & administers the national-wide test & data analysis. She has actively participated in international & national science education associations. For instance, she served as a chair of the JRST award committee at the NARST, a member of the East-Asian Association for Science Education (EASE) Executive Committee,  a vice-president, & President of the Association of Science Education in Taiwan (ASET) .

Prof. She is devoted to promoting students’ scientific conceptual change & multimedia digital learning. She has 61 referred publications in journals & book chapters, 108 conference papers, & 2 patents. Six years ago, in order to overcome the limits of science education research, she expanded her research to the study of how to integrate science education & neuroscience to gain a better understanding of how a human processes science information & how to improve science learning.

She has received several awards including Distinguished Research Award from the National Science Council in 2003, 2009 & 2012, The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program in 2011 & Merit MOST Research Fellow Award in 2016.
